A little history with your buzz…

Like most dudes called “Count” in turn-of-the-century Florence, Count Camillo Negroni could party. So they say. And his liver, salty as a soldier, wasn’t much moved by comparatively candy-ass aperitifs like the then-popular Americano (Campari, sweet vermouth and soda). So he asked his bartender to substitute gin for the soda. And the Negroni — granddaddy of all before-dinner cocktails — was born. More

 The recipe:

Instructions:
1 oz Martin Miller’s gin (or brand of your choice)
1 oz Carpano Antica sweet vermouth (or brand of your choice)
1 oz Campari
1 fresh orange peel

In a mixing glass, pour the gin, Campari and vermouth. Add ice. Stir until chilled, then strain into a cocktail glass. Express the orange peel over the glass and drop it in.

This is your basic Negroni, has the essential good quality vermouth.  Only place you can go wrong here is bad ice.
