In honor of our move to our new home on the banks of the Hudson River in historic area known as “Garrison’s Landing”, Garrison, NY, I created this robust winter Negroni.
The Gin: Plymouth London Dry, if it is good for Gabrielle Hamilton, it is good for us, we like it a lot in Negronis.)
The Vermouth: Carpano Antica Formula 1786
The Amaro: Cynar and Averna, a very nice combination.
More: Dutch’s Boom Town and Regan’s Orange Number 6, perfect finishing touch
The first evening in a new home always demands an exceptional toast. On this frigid January evening a delicate sip of Champagne would just not do. A big bold warming cocktail was what we needed. This variation on a favorite Plymouth, Antica, Cynar recipe was punched up by the lusty flavors of Averna and given depth with Boomtown bitters flavors of sarsaparilla, wintergreen, coconut and oak from the cask it is aged in, with a touch of bright citrus from the Regan’s. It was a luscious combination.
We served this Negroni up with a slice of orange.
For each cocktail
1 1/2 oz Part Gin, 1 1/2 oz Vermout, 1 oz Cynar, 1/2 oz Averna. Stir well over ice, serve, add 2 drops Regan’s and 3 drops Boomtown.
Sip and enjoy.
