Negroni # 53 “Castle Rock”

I live near Castle Rock an intriguing place. Somehow inspired by that and the Joe Campanale Negroni which  uses blood oranges that are marinated in vermouth and then grilled slightly.  I took it a step further.

The Gin: Citadelle Slow Distilled French Gin

The Vermouth: Carpano Antica Rosso, Cocchi Americano Bianco

The Amaro: Campari

More: Mini Barrel Aged Cocktail Kit

I marinated the oranges in Cocchi Americano Bianco for 12 hours, then gently seared them in a grill pan and set aside.   I then poured the liquid from the marinade into the barrel aging bottle, added some red vermouth and some gin to fill it up and let that sit for 24 hours, could go longer. The grilled oranges were tightly wrapped in plastic wrap.

On cocktail day I did my magical mixology and Viola!
